Late December 2022, Cordeel started the works on Campus Drie Eiken in Wilrijk. The UAntwerpen campus will be expanded with a residential tower for students, a new restaurant and a sports hall. The new facilities will be built on the existing car park 3, so that the existing green space will not be lost. The building envelope will be constructed with the patented C-fast precast system, developed by Cordeel. The advantage of this system is that almost no beams are needed. Beam, column and slab form one flat whole.
The project includes the new construction of 226 student housing units, a number of small food bars and a bicycle repair shop, new construction of sports infrastructure, construction of a new ground-level outdoor car park under the sports hall; and the reconstruction of car park 2. Sustainability is central to this project which is being built "climate-adaptively”. Geothermal energy and heat pumps will be used, and in addition, much attention is paid to building intelligence and demand-controlled lighting.
