Strijp S – BOLD – Eindhoven

BOLD, already completed in 2021, is an office building that marks the entrance to Strijp-S. The architecture of concrete frames and large windows refers to the site's industrial past. The building plays an important role as a link between the city and Strijp-S. Two volumes are linked together, a smaller 5-storey volume slid into a larger 8-storey volume. The volumes are clearly part of the same family but have subtle differences. The rectangular concrete gates are inviting from a great distance. The trampling in the gates have a different direction in the low-rise buildings than in the high-rise buildings. The high-rise faces the city, the low-rise faces Strijp-S. An arcade on the side creates an intermediary between the building and its surroundings connecting the public space with the ground floor. Passers-by are invited to enter. An area in the low-rise is reserved with a public function.
