At the beginning of 2022, Stam + De Koning Bouw began construction of the striking residential tower Niko, also known as Lighthouse, located in the Strijp-S area of Eindhoven. It is now the tallest (residential) tower in Eindhoven. For this project, Westo produced over 1,600 prefabricated concrete elements, including core walls, wall panels/columns, staircases, landings, and balcony slabs, all engineered by Snijders Ingenieursgroep. Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2025.
The tower will house 333 private-sector rental apartments, along with three larger apartments. The ground floor and first floor will accommodate space for shops, hospitality venues, offices, cultural concepts, and other amenities.
The building is designed to be sustainable, featuring a fully brick exterior façade and low-maintenance aluminum window frames. Inside, this sustainability is reflected in the efficient energy system that draws from renewable and local sources. During the winter, the floors provide heating, and in the summer, they offer cooling. Ventilation is CO₂-regulated, and energy is conserved through heat recovery.
The windows are fitted with triple (three-layer) glazing, providing enhanced insulation and soundproofing from external noise. These windows also include heat-reflective glass that minimizes solar gain during hot summer months.
Lastly, water-saving measures and LED lighting with occupancy sensors are used in the common areas, further contributing to the energy efficiency and sustainability of the building.
